Weapon: SW2/SW2: XL

Mitsunari wields a fan in battle. There are three basic ones plus a special, powerful fourth to unlock in SW2. SW2: XL adds a fifth weapon as well. The three basic ones can be obtained simply by collecting weapons boxes in battle, which can be found by breaking the yellow boxes found scattered on the battlefield or by picking them up if enemy officers drop them. The fourth and fifth ones require special conditions on the right stage to be fulfilled before they can be collected. The basic weapons are as follows:

~ Folding Fan (base attack 20): white fan with a black character/Japanese letter on it.
~ Fuji's Grace (base attack 29): purple and white fan with a black crest on it.
~ Open Valor (base attack 37): pink and white fan with a black crest on it.

The stats and elements on these are random. You can get better stats by doing stages on harder difficulties. Depending on how many slots there are on an item, you can also randomly add more stats in the shop (SW2: XL adds Orb Synthesis mode, which enables you to power up weapons much more effectively and as you like).

The fourth and fifth weapons come with set stats, which are all very powerful. They are as follows:

~ Golden Frill (base attack 45): dark blue fan with intricate golden decoration on it. Comes with ice element, +36 musou, +38 defense, +35 musou charge and +37 attack range. To obtain this weapon, play Mitsunari's dream stage on hard. Complete all missions successfully, up to and including rescuing Ekei, without going through the southern entrance of the castle (not talking about the gates here, the actual castle section inside of the gates). Then head for the Northern entrance, move towards the locked door inside and the precious item report will flash up.

~ Heaven's Bliss (base attack 45): golden fan with a white feather trim. Comes with lightning element, +54 musou, +37 speed and +52 luck. To obtain the Golden Frill, play the Battle of Komaki-Nagakute on hard (remember, this weapon is only available with SW2:XL). You must complete the mission which involves rescuing the detached unit, complete the following mission which requires you to capture Iwasaki castle, and then defeat Ina, Tadakatsu and Hanzo. You must also defeat 150 enemies, and this must be done in 8 minutes. Complete all this succesfully and you will get the weapon. You will need a powered up Mitsunari to get this weapon, because defeating Tadakatsu with enough time to spare is extremely difficult. Trust me on this.

As you can see, neither weapons have attack boosting stats. Golden Frill is excellent for players that have trouble surviving, but once you are confident with Mitsunari I suggest using an Open Valor with attack boosts AND defense boosts on it. On harder difficulties this will suit you much better. Of course, with SW2: XL you can simply modify either weapon with stats as you like, provided you have the orbs for them. In that case just pick the one you prefer the look of, hurhur (for me, it's got to be Heaven's Bliss). I do recommend you stick to ice element whatever you do, however. It's by far Mitsunari's most effective element.
